Digital Transformation and Its Impact on Managerial Decision-Making in Latin American SMEs

Abstract

This literature review examines the impact of digital transformation on managerial decision-making in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in Latin America. Key technologies such as ERP systems, customer relationship management (CRM), artificial intelligence, and Big Data are analyzed, highlighting their influence on the operational and strategic effectiveness of these organizations. It also addresses the economic, cultural, and technological factors influencing digital adoption, identifying disparities between countries and productive sectors. The literature reviewed shows that digitalization enables more accurate, faster, and data-driven decisions, optimizing internal processes and improving business competitiveness. However, significant challenges are also identified, such as resistance to change among managers and employees, limited investment in technological infrastructure, and a lack of digital skills within teams. These barriers hinder the effective adoption of digital tools, particularly in contexts of low connectivity or limited access to financing. The article concludes that successful digital transformation in Latin American SMEs requires a comprehensive approach that considers not only the integration of technologies, but also the transformation of organizational culture and the creation of public policies that promote inclusive digital development. In this regard, the need for collaborative strategies between the public and private sectors, continuous training programs, and measures that facilitate access to emerging technologies is highlighted. Only a systemic approach will strengthen the decision-making capacity of managers in the current digital environment
