PEER REVIEW POLICY

Revista Synapse Internacional (RSI), published by Synapse Ediciones, implements a rigorous and transparent peer-review process to ensure the quality, originality, and academic impact of the manuscripts it publishes. This process follows a double-blind review model, in which both authors and reviewers remain anonymous, guaranteeing objective and impartial evaluations.

Phase 1: Initial Editorial Evaluation

The review process begins with a preliminary assessment carried out by RSI’s editorial team. Within a maximum of 72 hours, authors receive an email notification including a unique reference number. At this stage, the Editor-in-Chief or an assigned editor evaluates the manuscript’s alignment with the journal’s scope, its originality, academic relevance, and potential contribution to the field.

Manuscripts may be rejected at this stage if they do not meet the journal’s standards, contain structural deficiencies, lack clarity in findings, or present signs of plagiarism. In such cases, authors are promptly notified. If there are doubts about the manuscript, the Editorial Board may be consulted for further evaluation.

Submissions that pass this phase proceed to the peer-review stage.

Phase 2: Double-Blind Peer Review

Manuscripts that pass the initial screening undergo an in-depth review by subject-matter experts through a double-blind process. Both the authors’ and reviewers’ identities remain confidential to ensure impartiality. Each reviewer assesses the manuscript according to several criteria:

  • Relevance to the academic community and potential scientific impact.

  • Clarity and coherence of writing.

  • Theoretical rigor and logical structure of the content.

  • Appropriate and updated use of bibliographic references.

  • Methodological soundness and validity of the research design.

  • Depth and consistency of analysis.

  • Originality and significance of the conclusions.

Reviewers have up to 30 days to submit their evaluations. Once completed, the editorial decision is shared with the authors. If revisions are required, authors are given 8 to 15 days to implement the changes, depending on their complexity.

Phase 3: Editorial Quality Control

After the peer-review process, manuscripts undergo a quality control review. This includes proofreading for grammar and spelling, as well as checking compliance with the journal’s formatting guidelines. The editorial team also verifies that the content aligns with RSI’s scope and editorial policy.

It is important to note that successful completion of the review process does not automatically guarantee publication. The final decision will depend on editorial priorities, the journal’s publication schedule, and the overall impact of the article.

Total Editorial Timeline

The full editorial process at Revista Synapse Internacional (RSI) typically takes between 8 and 12 weeks. This period includes the initial evaluation, peer review, editorial quality control, and the final decision. The timeline may vary depending on the complexity of the article and reviewer availability.

Roles and Confidentiality in the Review Process

Academic Editor Role: The Academic Editor oversees the entire evaluation process to ensure that each manuscript receives appropriate and thorough reviews. Reviewers are given a maximum of 8 days to submit their reports. In case of delays, authors will be informed about the status of their submission.

Reviewer Confidentiality: Reviewer identities are kept confidential throughout the entire evaluation process, unless they choose to disclose their names voluntarily.

Number of Reviewers: Typically, each manuscript is reviewed by at least two experts. Additional reviewers may be assigned at the discretion of the Academic Editor.

Final Editorial Decision

Once the review process is complete, the Academic Editor makes the final decision regarding the publication of the manuscript. This decision is based on the peer reviewers’ reports and the editor’s technical judgment. Authors are notified of the final outcome via the editorial system and email.

Possible decisions include:

  • Acceptance without revisions: The article is accepted as submitted.

  • Minor revisions: Small changes are required before final acceptance.

  • Major revisions: Substantial changes are needed before a second round of evaluation.

  • Rejection: The article does not meet the journal’s standards for publication.

This process ensures that Revista Synapse Internacional (RSI) upholds high scientific and academic standards, enabling the publication of relevant and impactful scholarly work.
