Ethics and Publication Malpractice Statement
Revista Synapse Internacional (RSI) is fully committed to upholding the highest ethical standards throughout all stages of the editorial process. To ensure the integrity of its publications, RSI adheres to the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) Code of Conduct and the guidelines of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors (ICMJE), promoting ethical practices in the preparation, submission, peer review, and publication of manuscripts. The following outlines the core ethical principles. For more detailed information, we encourage consulting the official COPE and ICMJE documentation.
Editorial Independence and Fair Evaluation
The editorial board evaluates manuscripts solely on the basis of their academic quality, originality, clarity, and relevance to the journal’s scope, without discrimination based on authors’ race, gender, sexual orientation, religious beliefs, or institutional affiliation. Editorial decisions are made independently, free from external influence—including governmental or institutional pressures—and are the sole responsibility of the Editor-in-Chief.
Confidentiality
All information related to submitted manuscripts is treated with strict confidentiality. Only the corresponding authors, reviewers, and essential editorial staff have access to the details of the review process.
Conflicts of Interest and Disclosure
The use of unpublished information from submitted manuscripts for personal or financial gain is strictly prohibited without the explicit written consent of the authors. If an editor has a conflict of interest with any of the manuscript’s authors, affiliated institutions, or funding sources, they must recuse themselves from the review process and delegate the task to another editorial team member.
All research published in Revista Synapse Internacional (RSI) must comply with the ethical regulations applicable in the country or region where the study was conducted. Authors are responsible for securing the necessary approvals prior to beginning their research.
If manuscripts include images of human participants, authors must ensure that their identity and privacy are protected. RSI follows the ICMJE Recommendations for the Conduct, Reporting, Editing, and Publication of Scholarly Work in Medical Journals, available in the ICMJE official guidelines.
Studies involving human or animal subjects must comply with the ethical standards outlined in the Declaration of Helsinki (available in both English and Spanish versions).
Authors must obtain informed consent from all participants and explicitly state this in the manuscript.
Randomized clinical trials must be approved by a Clinical Research Ethics Committee (or its local equivalent), clearly disclose funding sources, and be registered in a public clinical trials registry such as ClinicalTrials.gov.
All authors must disclose any financial or personal relationships that could influence the conduct, analysis, or publication of their work. If no conflicts of interest exist, the following statement must be included in the manuscript:
"Conflicts of interest: none."
If any conflict of interest is present, it must be clearly stated in the appropriate section of the manuscript and accompanied by a Conflict of Interest Disclosure Statement using the ICMJE format, available on their official website. The information provided must match what is presented in the manuscript.
For further guidance on conflicts of interest, please refer to section II-B-2 of the ICMJE Recommendations, accessible at: ICMJE Recommendations.
Authors must declare the institutions or organizations that provided financial support for the research and/or the writing of the manuscript, specifying their role in the study design, data collection and analysis, manuscript preparation, and decision to submit for publication.
If no funding was received, this must be explicitly stated in the relevant section of the manuscript.
